Gua Sha Facial

The traditional Chinese Gua Sha is a healing practice in which a smooth-edged crystal (also believed to have healing properties) tool is pressed against the skin in a scraping motion. This technique is used to depuff the face, smooth fine lines, reduce dark eye circles and hyperpigmentation, increase lymphatic drainage, and heal scars.

What are the benefits of Gua Sha facials?

  • Prevents breakouts and reduces inflammation

  • Your facial skin could experience some inflammation after undergoing breast cancer treatment. One way to combat the puffiness and inflammation: Gua Sha! Using your Gua Sha twice daily will alleviate skin discomfort and lessen inflammation so that the skin can recover quickly after chemotherapy or radiation.

  • Heals blemishes

  • A Gua Sha facial can help prevent breakouts and painful zits from appearing. Even if your skin breaks out, you will notice that the Gua Sha technique will help blemishes heal much faster.

  • Treats hyperpigmentation

  • Gua Sha is also known to break up pigmentation that may result from chemotherapy or radiation. You can also add  Vitamin C Serum to your daily skincare routine to accelerate the healing process.

  • Reduces puffiness and facilitates lymphatic drainage

  • The scraping motion of the Gua Sha draws excess fluid from your skin, stimulating lymphatic drainage and depuffing your face. This process will help to tone your cheekbones and shape your jawline for a slimmer face over time.

  • Smooths fine lines

  • Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other cancer treatments tend to cause cells to die off sooner than normal, speeding up the aging process. The Gua Sha healing technique can be used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. Try pairing it with the Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream or the Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream to reduce and prevent wrinkles.

  • Massages facial muscles and helps soothe back, shoulder, and neck pain

We naturally hold a lot of tension in our face, especially after a particularly stressful day. This practice is so relaxing in the early morning and feels amazing at the end of the day as well.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion triggers the body’s wound healing process by physically buffing away the stratum corneum – the skin’s outermost layer. This results in a renewed layer of surface skin with less pronounced blemishes and a more even complexion.
Microdermabrasion furthermore stimulates the production of collagen, the protein that gives skin its shape, structure and suppleness. As such, the renewed surface skin will feel smoother and firmer to the touch, with improvements in texture and contour.
Microdermabrasion procedures do not require sedation or anesthesia, and is offered at Captivate Clinic.
Before your treatment begins, your skin will be cleansed. The treatment itself is performed with a diamond-tipped handpiece, which buff away the dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, leaving the skin feeling silky smooth.
As the device passes over your skin, a vacuum attachment suctions away any dead skin cells, debris and waste. Over the course of the session, the handpiece typically passes over the treatment areas two or three times. Sessions typically take 30 minutes to complete in total, and require no downtime.
Microdermabrasion sessions should be performed at least one week apart to ensure that the skin has sufficient time to heal. Patients with more sensitive skin may need up to 8 weeks to recover completely from a session.
The total number of sessions needed to achieve ideal results will vary depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Anywhere from 4–16 sessions may be needed. Once an ideal skin texture and appearance has been achieved, results can be maintained with one session every 4–6 weeks.
Microdermabrasion treatments are intended to treat skin in order to improve and reduce the appearance of many skin concerns.
•Acne
•Wrinkles and fine lines, including those caused by photoaging
•Uneven skin tone, including hyperpigmentation and melasma
•Scarring, including acne scarring
•Enlarged pores
•Stretch marks

Skin Needling

Skin needling is a minimally-invasive non-surgical and nonablative procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create a controlled skin injury.

Captivate Clinic uses a  Dermapen device.  The needles are up to 3 mm in length but typically 0.5 mm length is used to minimise bleeding and enable rapid recovery. Professional skin needling is considered to be one of the safest skin treatment procedures. Unlike chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser treatments, skin needling causes minimal damage to the skin.

How does skin needling work?

As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The microchannels created spontaneously close after 10 minutes so that epidermal barrier integrity remains intact.

The needles injure superficial dermal collagen strands and small blood vessels triggering a controlled cascade of inflammation including the release of platelet-derived growth factors transforming growth factor-alpha and beta (TGF β-3), connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor. These lead to the production of new collagen, elastin, and capillaries.

Neovascularisation and neocollagenesis lead to thickened skin and a reduction of scars, with improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration.

What is skin needling used for?

•Reducing scars (including hypertrophic scars) caused by acne, surgery, or thermal burns

•Fading stretch marks

•Reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles

•Dyspigmentation and melasma

Tightening sagging skin.

Dermal Filler Treatment

Aging is a normal part of life. Starting as early as your twenties, your skin begins to lose elasticity and moisture. This loss results in the fine lines and wrinkles that start to develop over the years. For previous generations, the only way to effectively erase these wrinkles was through major plastic surgery. But times have changed. Thanks to advances in modern medicine, there are now injectable options that can provide real results with virtually no downtime. These make anti-aging procedures more accessible to the public. One of these options is cosmetic fillers in Houston. But what are the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers?

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid. And it is most commonly found in your skin, eyes, and connective tissue. The primary role of hyaluronic acid is water retention, and it helps to keep your tissues appropriately hydrated. Unfortunately, it is one of many chemical components that your body produces less of as you age. Without the full plumping effects of hyaluronic acid, small sections of skin collapse, contributing to fine lines and wrinkles long before you expect them to show up.

How do Fillers Work?

•Hyaluronic fillers work by injecting more hyaluronic acid into your skin in areas that have begun to collapse inward. Once this natural acid is in place, it attracts water, resulting in a plumping effect that reduces the appearance of aging for months at a time without any of the concerns that would normally accompany an anti-aging procedure.

•In most cases, you can have fillers injected during one quick and easy office visit, but you should probably take a half-day just to be safe. By having your injections over lunch, you free up your afternoon to ensure that you have time to see how your skin reacts to the injections. Serious side effects are extremely rare because hyaluronic acid is a natural part of your body.

•Still, a little bleeding or bruising can occur at the injection sites. So, to make sure you are safe and comfortable,  take the rest of the afternoon off work.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Given that dermal fillers are nonsurgical and come with minimal risk, most people are good candidates for the procedure. Even if you are in your twenties, you may consider dermal fillers as a preventative measure that will reduce the effects of aging over the next few decades.

The only conditions that may disqualify a patient from receiving dermal fillers are:

  • An active infection

  • Dental procedure within 4 weeks either before or after treatment

  • Covid 19 or any vaccine two weeks either before or after treatment

  • Diabetes that is not properly controlled

  • A blood-clotting disorder

  • Additionally, women who are pregnant or nursing, and patients with a current cancer diagnosis should not have dermal fillers

There is currently little evidence to show that these categories of patients are at additional risk. But very few studies have been performed so far. Until further research is conducted, it may be best to act with caution and wait until your body is better equipped for a fast recovery.

"Aging preservation treatments, a few  months at a time maintain youth for longer.

If you are considering having dermal filler injections, hyaluronic acid fillers are one of several possible options. Book a consultation to learn more about the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers. Ageing Well Nutritional Assessment

Its been discovered that dietary intake changes and some medications can have a profound effect on your skin health and appearance in as little as six months

Collagen is important for skin health but also for the ageing of bone, smooth muscle in organs, tendons and also muscles. It’s the lack of collagen, elastin and the decreased ability of the body being able to produce collagen at the same rates and metabolise in the same way. Everything slows down as we age.

Skin is the largest organ in our body and holds everything inside our bodies. It is a protective barrier around the body to protect us from infection and a complex system, to help our bodies maintain homeostasis. Within our body there are many complex systems that are linked. These complex systems,  require each other to work effectively and in attempt for this to remain the same, tiny little buffer systems continuously work to ensure that if a level is out in compensation for the change to any other system within the body, our body corrects it quickly to ensure the system stays in homeostasis.

EVERYTHING IS intricately  LINKED.

By relieving the pressure placed on these systems by making complete lifestyle changes promotes ageing at decreased rate and further preventing the signs of ageing or sometimes even correcting them.

It’s been found that certain botanicals, minerals, vitamins and other types of supplements can turn back the clock and also prevent further signs of ageing just on its own. So when clients change their entire lifestyle to match you can imagine the results. Stimulating collagen and elastin topically can only be absorbed transdermally through all the tiny blood vessels and cells within the skin, however the skin does not receive blood flow first in the body and all nutrition is metabolised and sent to the correct areas more effectively from the inside.

To find out more,  book a anti-ageing consultation with one of our team. Always consult your doctor before making any changes if you are on any medications or have any diagnosis.
